Chuck Smick is a freelance outdoor writer and photographer, and lives with his wife Kathy in Paducah, Kentucky.
Chuck has a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resources Management, with a minor in English and Military Studies from Tennessee Tech. University. Chuck also has a Master of Science degree in Safety Management. He also holds professional certifications in safety and industrial hygiene. Chuck is also a graduate of the New York Institute of Photography, with a diploma in Professional Photography, and a diploma in Comprehensive Outdoor Writing from the North American School of Outdoor Writing in British Columbia, Canada.
Chuck was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in Infantry in 1977, and has served his country as an Airborne Infantry officer for twenty years in Active Duty and Reserve assignments in the United States Army and Army Reserves.
While on Active Duty, Chuck served in Airborne, Infantry and Special Forces Units. Chuck was recalled to Active Duty as a Major for Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm and served with the 1st Infantry Division and Ft. Riley, KS. Chuck is currently a Major in the Retired Reserves.
Chuck works full-time as a safety manager for a large construction company in St. Louis, MO, and works on large heavy industrial and heavy-civil projects throughout the United States.
Chuck has over 45 years of hunting, fishing and trapping experience in 17 states from Alaska to Florida. Chuck is an avid traditional bowhunter and has taken deer, elk and wild boar with his longbows and recurve bows. Chuck and his wife Kathy are both avid fishermen; and enjoy chasing big bluegills and redears on Kentucky Lake.
